There are two levels of membership: general membership and full Phi Alpha Theta membership. Everyone is welcome to participate as a general member. To become a full member, one must meet the standards of credits and GPA listed below:
- At least a 3.0 overall GPA
- At least a 3.1 GPA in History
- Minimum of 12 credits of History at an accredited university
Full members must also pay a membership fee and annual local chapter fee, which is determined at the beginning of each academic year.
