Summer History Coursework Becomes a Podcast

Brian HamiltonAs one of our instructors teaching an online History course this summer, Brian Hamilton decided to engage his students in producing a podcast interview for Edge Effects magazine, a digital magazine produced by graduate students at the Center for Culture, History, and Environment at UW-Madison. The students of History 227 – Race and Environment in the History of the U.S. interviewed Dr. Monica White, author of Freedom Farmers: Agricultural Resistance and the Black Freedom Movement (University of North Carolina Press, 2018). Dr. White’s book discusses the enduring place of agriculture, farming, and food activism in the Black freedom struggle, and contextualizes this long history within current conversations about the resurgence of food justice movements in urban spaces.
