The Department of History is proud to announce that Professor Louise Young has been elected into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences! Professor Young is one of the nearly 250 outstanding individuals to have received this honor for the year 2020. Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences honors excellence and convenes leaders from every field of human endeavor to examine new ideas, address issues of importance to the nation and the world, and work together “to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people.” Professor Young is a social and cultural historian of modern Japan, whose teaching and research covers Japanese international relations, World War II in Asia, comparative imperialism, and urban history.
