Biography

I study Chinese and Tibetan history, with my research focusing on state building and modernization attempts in Tibet during the reign of the 13th Dalai Lama in the early 20th century.

I previously specialized in Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) history, especially focusing on ethnicity, empire, and settler colonialism.
