Biography

I am interested in the social history of late imperial China, particularly in how state power was perceived at the local level, and how communities responded to the imperial presence. With a background in archaeology, ethnography, and history, I approach the imperial past through a combination of archival research and fieldwork. My master’s thesis focuses on the forests surrounding the imperial tombs in Ming dynasty China.  It examines the entanglement of natural resources, borderland tensions, imperial regulations, and local transgressions, shedding light on the complex interactions among various actors within a distinct local context.
