Timothy Ernst

Timothy Ernst (’80) is the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a leading innovator in the life science research and clinical diagnostic markets headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Prior to joining Bio-Rad Tim was the General Counsel of Big Heart Pet Brands and Del Monte Foods and was in-house counsel at California and Hawaiian (C&H) Sugar Company.  Tim received his J.D. degree from the UCLA School of Law and also studied law at the University of Wales in Cardiff, Wales.  He received his B.A. degree in History and Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1980, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and recipient of the Theodore Herfurth Award for Initiative and Efficiency.  In his spare time, Tim serves as a volunteer docent at the home of fellow Badger, John Muir, at the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez, California.  Tim lives in Walnut Creek, California, with his wife, Barbara, and two rescue dogs, Rocky and Scout.
