We encourage our students to take courses with each of our faculty, putting together a rigorous course of study that is strongly interdisciplinary, comparative, and transnational. We stress the importance of intellectual community, peer learning, and building a strong social network to support you through graduate school and your future career. The program includes core training in professional skills (grant writing, public speaking, teaching), and the development of a teaching portfolio. Thus students will leave our program conversant with an array of methodological approaches, and able to teach across the East Asian region and the early modern and modern time periods.
