“The U.S. Green Energy Transformation: Controlling Climate Change and Expanding Job Opportunities”
Dr. Robert Pollin
Distinguished Professor of Economics University of Massachusetts-Amherst
and alumnus of the UW Department of History
In 2010 the United States produced about 17 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, even though we only represent 4 percent of the world’s population. To make our minimally fair contribution toward reducing global emissions, we need to cut our emissions by at least 40% by the year 2030. Meeting these reduction targets will be challenging, but the goal is not out of reach. In his Goldberg Memorial Lecture, Pollin will outline a transformative green energy investment program that will simultaneously meet the 40 percent reduction target over the next twenty years and generate 2.7 million new jobs for American workers in mass transit, automobile manufacturing, building construction, and dozens of other industries.
