Timeline – 2017 – Combining Forces

The faculty of the History Department and the History of Science Department agreed in 2017 to combine forces in a single department. Also members of the History faculty are historians in the UW Medical School’s Department of Medical History and Bioethics, who hold joint appointments with History.

The Department of History now offers two graduate degree programs—the MA/PhD in History and the MA/PhD in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology. Although the undergraduate major in HSMT was suspended, undergrad courses in the History of Science continue to be offered alongside History courses.
