Four faculty members have received Vilas Professorships and Awards this year! Professor Francine Hirsch (Russian & European History) received the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professorship, an award recognizing distinguished scholarship as well as outstanding efforts in teaching and service. This Professorship will provide five years of research funding. Professors Nan Enstad (U.S. History) and Neil Kodesh (African History) received Vilas Mid-Career Investigator Awards, recognizing research and teaching excellence. These awards provide research funding for three years. Professor Elizabeth Hennessy (Environmental History) was also selected as a 2019-2021 Vilas Associate, which will support a new project on the social and ecological costs of palm oil production in Ecuador.
