Robert Siegfried, professor emeritus of the History of Science department and its first Ph.D. awardee, passed away on September 2, 2014. Siegfried taught in the department for many years after completing his doctorate in 1952 titled “A Study of Chemical Research Publications from the United States before 1880” under Robert Stauffer. Known for his work on the Chemical Revolution and upon Humphry Davy, he guided six graduate students to their doctorates during the 1960s and 1970s. The department extends to his family and friends our deepest sympathy.
