UW History of Science Graduate Students at the 57th Junto

April 2014

The UW History of Science department was well represented at the recent 57th annual meeting of the recent Midwest Junto for the History of Science. Held April 4-6 at Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri, five graduate students attended with four giving talks on topics ranging from Digitized Media and Data Visualization (Scott Prinster) to Fathallah al-Shirwani’s Optics (Scott Trigg) to British Physiologists’ Adventures in Thermodynamics (Dan Liu) to Michigan’s Trees (Melissa Charenko). The meeting proved productive not only in terms of the many good talks presented, but in the many conversations facilitated by this gathering of Midwestern scholars in the history of science, technology, and medicine. The exciting news is that the next Junto will be hosted by the UW History of Science department in spring 2015. Planning is already underway for what should be an engaging and well-attended event – stay tuned for further details.
