My research centers on the boundary and border history of West Africa. I explore the demarcations of French West Africa at their creation, and the ways their maintenance, following independence, continue to impact international relations between these nation-states, with a specific focus from Dakar. I am particularly interested in the differential management of the Colonial administrative structure and the ways nationalistic identity was developed during post-colonial movements shaped by the newly established sovereignty.
