Biography

Biography

II work at the intersection of the history of the earth sciences and environmental history, with a focus on the politics of the deep past during the nineteenth century. My dissertation project examines Ireland’s peat bogs as sites of prehistory, objects of agricultural development schemes, and symbols of death and regeneration. I have conducted archival research in the UK, Ireland, and India. My broader research interests include subterranean environments, cultures of collecting, and the construction of geologic knowledge in the British empire.

Before coming to UW–Madison, I also worked in editorial at Cambridge University Press.
