My research seeks to understand the environmental aftereffects of industrialization of the Soviet Union and eastern Europe during the Stalinist period (broadly defined as 1928-1956). More specifically, I explore the building of socialism and its long-term consequences for urban and rural landscapes, human actors, and land-usage patterns and policy in modern Russia and Poland.
