Professor Shennette Garrett-Scott is a historian of gender, race, and capitalism. Her first book, Banking on Freedom: Black Women in U.S. Finance before the New Deal (Columbia University Press, 2019) received the Darlene Clark Hine award from the Organization of American Historians and the Letitia Woods Brown Book Prize from the Association of Black Women Historians. This event is sponsored by the Harvey Goldberg Center of the Department of History.
The event will consist of a conversation between Paige Glotzer and Dr. Garrett-Scott followed by an audience Q&A.
It is recommended that audience members read chapter two of Banking on Freedom, available as an e-book through the UW Library.
