Study Abroad for History Majors
Wondering if it is possible to study abroad and complete a history major? The answer is a resounding YES! International Academic Programs (IAP) coordinates with universities across the globe, giving you the opportunity to study just about anywhere you can imagine. Not only is there a wide array of programs to choose from, but many of these programs offer history courses! Read more about the advantages of studying through a UW-Madison sponsored program.
Worried about credits transferring back to UW-Madison? Any courses taken through IAP will transfer to UW-Madison. These credits will count toward the 120 credits required to graduate and many may count toward specific graduation requirements. Most history courses taken abroad will count toward the 30 credits required for the major and it is also possible for them to count toward your history breadth and concentration requirements as well.
Already found a program that you’re interested in, but want to know more about it from someone who has studied there? There are a few ways that you can get in contact with students who have recently returned from abroad:
- Student profiles – Here you can find testimonials from students based on program
- Returned student network (pdf) – This is a list put together by IAP with contact information from recently returned students who want to talk about their experiences with students who are considering studying abroad
- Study abroad correspondents – Read blogs of students who are currently studying abroad
For more information about these and other study abroad programs visit IAP’s website.
