About Our Program

Our graduate program – with some 150 graduate students and more than 50 faculty members – is one of the oldest, largest, most distinguished, and most comprehensive programs in the U.S., renowned for its long and valued tradition of collegiality and openness.

Receiving a Ph.D. in History from UW-Madison means working with award-winning faculty; conducting original and path-breaking research; enjoying access to an array of research centers, program, and libraries; training in a diversity of ideas, methods, and languages; and becoming a member of a far-flung – indeed, worldwide – network of our distinguished alumni.
