The Department offers a number of fellowships each year. Award recipients are determined by the Fellowships & Scholarships committee. Each year’s F&S committee has discretion to decide the kinds of awards it will offer, the number available, their value, and the qualifications necessary to apply. Its decisions depend largely on the financial condition of the trust funds and on current student needs.
For Prospective and Incoming Graduate Students
Departmental Multi-Year Aid Packages
The packages provide four to five years of guaranteed aid to a select number of incoming graduate students. Two years of support are in the form of a University Fellowship; the remainder may take the form of departmental fellowships, assistantships, or external fellowships.
All admitted students are automatically entered into the fellowship competition at the time they apply to the Graduate Program in History.
Deadline: December 1
For Current Graduate Students
These one-semester awards are given to students in two categories: dissertators and pre-dissertators. Departmental fellowships provide stipends and partial tuition payment plus eligibility to enroll in a University health insurance plan. Up to four fellowships also carry non-resident tuition remissions. The number of these depends on the availability of funds and on approval from the Graduate School.
Deadline: March 1
