The Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative Collaborative project to produce an interactive electronic atlas of the world from which selected data from regions, eras, and disciplines can be instantaneously accessed.
The Great Buildings Collection Documents 1,000 buildings and other structures (e.g., bridges) with images, drawings, and downloadable 3-D models  This currently highlights links to its pages on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

International Meridian Conference, 1884 Out of this conference, convened by the U.S., apparently in response to naval interests, came an international agreement establishing the meridian passing through Greenwich, England, as the international or prime meridian.  Available on the web are page images of the conference proceedings, thanks to Joseph S. Myers of Cambridge University, and a Project Gutenberg transcription of the proceedings.  Thanks to Wikipedia for these links.

Map History/History of Cartography Comprehensive site maintained Tony Campbell , Map Library (retired), British Library.  It provides a gateway to a wealth of information on non-current (old, early) maps..

Ad*Access Online collection of over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955.
David Rumsey Collection Offers more than 11,000 maps, mainly 18c & 19c North and South America but some for other parts of the world and other kinds of resources-- rapidly expanding; superb resolution and zoom-in capabilities.

In Motion:  The African-American Migration Exprerience Online exhibit at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (Harlem, NY).  This includes a section with images, text, and bibliography on "The Domestic Slave Trade," a topic that business historians have ignored.
Lincoln and the Civil War HarpWeek's searchable collection of 14 illustrated newspaper, opening in spring 2002.
Making of America (MOA) Digital library of primary printed sources (books, pamphlets, periodicals) in U.S. social history ca. 1815-1877. 
Manhattan Transformations Fascinating site that uses computer modeling to depict Manhattan's development in four  dimensions.
Museum of American Financial History Founded in 1988, the museum offers a few images online from its current exhibits.
New York Times, 1851-1999 (UW access only) Full-text searches of the New York Times.
Pennsylvania Session Laws Includes Pennsylvania Statutes at Large, 1682-1809; Smith's Laws, 1700-1802; Pamphlet Laws, 1980-2002.  The Legislative Reference Bureau plans to add Pamphlet Laws, 1801-1979.
Regional Oral History Office Division of the Bancroft Library at UC-Berkeley that creates oral history for public use.  Included are interviews on the California wine industry and twentieth-century western mining.
Saugus Iron Works National Park Service site on Iron-making in 17th-century Massachusetts.  This "Teaching with Historic Places" lesson plan includes descriptions of iron-making, diagrams, and maps. 
Seneca Village - NYC New York Historical Society website about the village of African Americans and European immigrants that was razed in building Central Park in the 1850s.
Sloss Furnaces Pig-producing furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama, that have been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
Samual Gompers Papers Includes detailed information on U.S. labor history (ca. 1850-1924) and images and transcriptions of a selection of documents from the Gompers collection.
Third Person, First Person Slave voices from the Special Collections Library, Duke University.

The Urban Landscape Digital Image Access Project:  database of 1,000 images from various collections held by Duke University.
The Valley of the Shadow:  Living the Civil War in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Pioneer site in demonstrating the possibilities of hyper-history; sources include newspapers, letters, diaries, photographs, maps, church records, population census, agricultural census, and military records.
Wal-Mart Stores Links to the company's annual reports since 1972 (in pdf format).
Wisconsin Pioneer Experience UW-Madison's digital collection of original sources documenting 19th-century Wisconsin history -- diaries, letters, and other personal narratives.
Women Working, 1870-1930 Online access to digitized resources from Harvard's collections on women's work between the Civil War and the Great Depression.  The collection currently [as of Feb. 2005] contains 2,396 books and pamphlets, 1,075 photographs, and 5,000 pages from manuscript collections. There may be incidental attention to women as capitalists, but the emphasis is on women as laborers. 

Britain

The Great Britain Historical GIS Programme Map-based presentation of historical data.
Proceedings of the Old Bailey London, 1674-1834  A fully searchable online edition of the largest body of texts detailing the lives of non-elite people ever published.  It currently encompasses 53,000 criminal trials (April 1674 to Dec. 1799) held at London's central criminal court and will eventually include accounts of over 100,000 such trials. 
   

France

An Early Information Society: News and the Media in Eighteenth-Century Paris Online version of Robert Darnton's AHA presidential address; includes map of Paris with cafes and transcriptions of police reports; also songs.
Gallica -- la bibliothèque numérique 80,000 documents on the website of the Bibliothèque nationale de France; excellent electronic finding aids.
