Jewish Heritage Lecture Series
"Jews, Multiculturalism, and American Ethnoracial and Racial History" and
"American Jewish History in a Post-Jewish Domain"
by
Professor David Hollinger
Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14, 2009
4:00 PM
Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street
Sponsored by: Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies
These lectures will address the sometimes contested place of American Jewish history as a field within the larger field of American history, and will suggest that specialists in American Jewish history are sometimes less willing than they should be to proclaim the importance of Jewish history to the larger narrative of United States History. The lectures will distinguish between “communalist” and “dispersionist” constructions of Jewish history, and indicate the promise of taking the field in more dispersionist directions.
